Portion Sizing with a Kitchen Scale
By Kcalbit Editorial · Published August 20, 2025

How to weigh common foods quickly so logging isn’t a chore.

A kitchen scale removes guesswork. Here's a fast workflow.

Zero → add → zero

  1. Put your bowl on the scale, press tare (zero).
  2. Add food #1, note grams.
  3. Press tare again, add food #2, note grams.

Common items

  • Dry rice: cook ratio ~1:2 (100 g dry → ~300 g cooked)
  • Chicken breast: raw vs cooked weight differs (~15–20%)
  • Oils/butters: measure in grams; calories add up fast

Use consistent entries in your app. Exact brands matter less than consistency.

Gear: digital kitchen scale.
